  • I'm a white woman and I don't have any of the things in this song on my instagram. Am I doing it wrong? :(

  • Ok but can we talk about how damn LUCIOUS Bo's hair is nowadays? It's just super emphasized in this song XD

  • Sending this to my sister asap!

  • “That’s what bilbo baggins hates!” - Martin Luther King

  • Never in my life I have been happier I don't have insta.

  • my favorite position - CEO

  • seriously cutting satire. where have all the satirists gone? Gone to flowers everyone. When will they ever learn? When will they ever earn?

  • “And Rohan will answer. Muster the Rohirrim” - Martin Luther King of Rohan

  • this is low-key cool

  • Ok I’m checking off all that apply to me as a white woman on Instagram….. -Snow ……. Sorry I guess I’m not like other girls 🤣🤣

  • "Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars" - Martin Luther King

  • The fact that in his birthday picture he makes himself 3 years younger ... :'-)

  • i love how he is shading Gabie Hanna

  • Laughed way to hard, but also he looked adorable recreating the pictures.

  • The people who dislike this… are white girls with Instagram

  • SUS

  • He looks like 40% cuter than any white woman while he's doing WhiteWoman(TM) shit in WhiteWoman(TM) clothes 🤣

  • So many IG/social media apologists. There's some rich white dudes out there that be stoked!

  • You really humanized this fictional woman with that letter to her dead parents.

  • Zeke Yeager?

  • What's wrong with this guy? I lived in India, and all they do is post cute things. In war-torn Kosovo, all they do is post cute things. In South Korea, all they do it post cute things. In Kazakhstan, the camel herding nomads just post cute things. In Syria, they post pictures of their cute poodles. When life is excruciating and hard, sometimes all you have left are the small, simple things in life, like a puff ball on a pencil, or the morning light shining through the window. It's those small, happy things that are the only thing left. If this guy wants to sing about the privileged, why doesn't he sing about white women living in mansions hoarding toilet paper or something?

  • "You shall not pass" -Martin Luther King Jr

  • 3k white women don't approve of this commentary and observations.

  • "One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." -Martin Luther King Jr.

  • I was here

  • What a beautiful divergence about losing her mom. Shows the depth of someone who otherwise posts “basic” content. That behind the latte art, there’s still a feeling person who has experienced true grief and deep heartache, wishing she could share her life and updates with her mom. Tears, immediately, out of nowhere. So well done, Bo.

  • 3:19 = when I start crying harder than I did at my own sister’s wedding

  • As a white middle aged woman, he is right. Instagram has been ruined! I’ve seen many of my friends go down the vapid rabbit hole as he highlighted. The only thing he missed was all of the ones trying to sell you their crap or get you to join their multi level marketing schemes. The pandemic made me hate social media. It’s been close to a year since I’ve been on it, and I have genuinely fun things to share with my parents and relatives about my kids and life. Every time I almost push send, I feel like it’s bragging, so I hit delete instead. I wish I wouldn’t have allowed so many people to follow me on that app. I’d love to go back to it just being my family and closest friends.

  • "What about second breakfast?" - Dr. Reverend Martin Luther Kang Jr. the 3rd

  • Interesting photo ideas ..i might try🤣🤣🤣

  • saw Inside in a theatre with my mom about four months after both her parents died, and the aspect ratio change absolutely broke her. good job Bo you made my mom cry.

  • showed this to my mentor and she fucking died at the goat cheese salad

  • I literally just looked at the rain and thanked God for this man.

  • Started figuring out Bo's style with this song. It really helps to listen to it without the visuals, it seems those might be constructed as a later layer for more simple entertainment. Bo constructs the song with layers and as a journey. It starts with the song name, first evoking cynicism and eye rolling at our preconceived understanding of what "white woman's instagram" means. Shallow, self-absorbed, plastic, fake, entitled, privileged, sheltered, narcissistic, cliché, unoriginal. We enter the song irritated at the caricature and looking to bash and judge them, lets go! The first verses give us what we expect, evoking the a lot of descriptive images that we associate with the copy-paste Instagram influencer-type posts that try to paint perfect pictures of idealistic life. But as it goes on, we connect with at least some of it. After all, who doesn't like fresh fallen snow or a golden retriever. The chorus kicks in and reminds you what the song is supposed to be about though, snap out of it, it's a "white woman's Instagram!" Then more shallow simple examples, some jokes (get all the kids with the MLK-LOTR joke). Chorus again to really reinforce that beginning mindset again - hey we're dealing with all all those adjectives described earlier. Then he hits you with the turn, the music and vocals change to reveal a whole new story. It's about a woman who lost their mom, is struggling, misses their mom, is coping though and making it through life and succeeding, they even have a home and a boyfriend. Then he slips in a second deep cut asking the mom to "give a kiss to dad", meaning their dad is also dead and the "white woman" is an orphan...But back to descriptions of shallow instagram posts. But we're meant to see them with new eyes now. Scrubbed away are the cynical lenses we were judging this woman before, we've emotionally connected with the story of a woman who has overcome indescribable hardship to succeed in life. Bo almost immediately slyly slips in the verse "3 little words, a couple of doves". He's not describing instagram posts, he's humanizing the subject more, making them more real, she is even getting engaged to someone she loves in the next verse! But then he immediately brings back the chorus, but it's no longer a jaded and cynical call-to-judgment of the subject. We're burdened with empathy and knowledge now that this isn't a simple caricature of the vapid Instagram posts we associate this story with. Maybe other similar Instagram posts come from similarly complex and empathy-deserving people. We're left uncertain and self-reflective because we're being forced to reconcile how we're feeling now vs at the beginning of the song. Brilliant. It teaches empathy and seems to recommend that we shouldn't just judge every story with the most pessimistic of eyes. Thanks for the journey Bo.

  • he summoned his inner white woman for this

  • Well I look VERY white but apparently my Instagram isn’t 😂

  • Definitely what you would see

  • Bo looks so beautiful

  • I am in love with your music. It' so good!! It makes me happy

  • A red sunrise means blood has been spilt upon this eve- Martin Luther King Jr.

  • “The leaves were long, the grass was green, The hemlock-umbels tall and fair, And in the glade a light was seen Of stars in shadow shimmering. Tinuviel was dancing there To music of a pipe unseen, And light of stars was in her hair, And in her raiment glimmering. There Beren came from mountains cold, And lost he wandered under leaves, And where the Elven-river rolled. He walked along and sorrowing. He peered between the hemlock-leaves And saw in wonder flowers of gold Upon her mantle and her sleeves, And her hair like shadow following. Enchantment healed his weary feet That over hills were doomed to roam; And forth he hastened, strong and fleet, And grasped at moonbeams glistening. Through woven woods in Elvenhome She lightly fled on dancing feet, And left him lonely still to roam In the silent forest listening. He heard there oft the flying sound Of feet as light as linden-leaves, Or music welling underground, In hidden hollows quavering. Now withered lay the hemlock-sheaves, And one by one with sighing sound Whispering fell the beechen leaves In the wintry woodland wavering. He sought her ever, wandering far Where leaves of years were thickly strewn, By light of moon and ray of star In frosty heavens shivering. Her mantle glinted in the moon, As on a hill-top high and far She danced, and at her feet was strewn A mist of silver quivering. When winter passed, she came again, And her song released the sudden spring, Like rising lark, and falling rain, And melting water bubbling. He saw the elven-flowers spring About her feet, and healed again He longed by her to dance and sing Upon the grass untroubling. Again she fled, but swift he came. Tinuviel! Tinuviel! He called her by her elvish name; And there she halted listening. One moment stood she, and a spell His voice laid on her: Beren came, And doom fell on Tinuviel That in his arms lay glistening. As Beren looked into her eyes Within the shadows of her hair, The trembling starlight of the skies He saw there mirrored shimmering. Tinuviel the elven-fair, Immortal maiden elven-wise, About him cast her shadowy hair And arms like silver glimmering. Long was the way that fate them bore, O'er stony mountains cold and grey, Through halls of iron and darkling door, And woods of nightshade morrowless. The Sundering Seas between them lay, And yet at last they met once more, And long ago they passed away In the forest singing sorrowless.” Martin Luther King Jr.

  • I can't believe this is me, even the dead parents part 😭

  • Omg I never noticed how pretty bos eyes were ✨

  • White women...hes coming for your brand

  • I'm just curious whether he had to specifically see enough pictures (100's, 1000's?) to be general, or if the pattern is really that obvious

  • *heartfelt grief message to mom* me: getting all emotional A MILLISECOND LATER: goat cheese saladdddd 🎵

  • I might have cried

  • “What’s taters precious?” - MLK JR

  • I was so amazed at how much Instagram crap he managed to get during a pandemic.

  • I love that this is basically a thesis statement about Inside. All the shots are highly manufactured and selling this idea of "authenticity", but it allows the creator to present a version of themselves to the world that they have tight control over. Some real emotions from, and empathy for, the creator might come through, and that's great! I think the point of this song is that despite the "sameness" of creators, they're still human people with lives and hopes and dreams. But searching the creations to find out more about the creator is a fool's game. "Inside" is a more confrontational White Woman's Instagram, but it's still manufactured. Notice how in the video game portion, the shoulder movements during the "crying" portion exactly match the movements in his "breakdown" after the statement "I'm not okay". He's shown us some emotions, just like the White Woman tells us about her dead mom, but he's also reminding us it's still a performance. His emotions are as removed as he wants them to be. We can't take his word on any of the things he's saying about himself in this, but that's not the point. He's created this performance to make us feel something-- hopefully more compassion for our fellow humans. But we can't assume we know Bo just because we watched this special. I dunno, I'm entranced by how this song is both very simple and doofy, and also asking for compassion, and also a Big Art School production about art vs. artist. Bo's really fucking interesting.

  • Here, take this internet. You deserve it Bo.

  • The song is amazing, definitely, but I only now noticed what a lovely shade of blue his eyes are!

  • 'Your little girl didnt do too bad' slays me everytime.

  • As a white woman I do not have anything like this on my Instagram but I can't say this isn't accurate 😂

  • A couple of near misses there bo 😂 I better watch my back
